Miss Mary Towles SASSEEN DAR ID NUMBER: 12087

Born in Kentucky. Descendant of Col. Henry Dixon, of North Carolina; Gen. Samuel Hopkins, of Virginia. Daughter of Phelps Sasseen and Mary Johnston Towles, his wife. Gr.- Granddaughter of Henry Dixon and Mary Johnston, his wife; Judge Thomas Taylor Towles and Nancy Hopkins, his wife. Gr. - gr. - granddaughter of Henry Dixon and Frances Wynn, his wife; Samuel Hopkins and Elizabeth Bugg, his wife.

Samuel Hopkins served as captain at Trenton, Princeton and Brandywine, and was severely wounded at Germantown.  He was a lieutenant colonel at Monmouth and colonel when taken prisoner at Charlestown.  When exchanged he served to the close of the war.  He was born in Albemarle County, VA., 1754, and died in Henderson County, KY., 1819.
