Henderson County, Kentucky Biography

CAPTAIN HENRY DIXON

Addendum

I am descended from Elizabeth Dixon POSEY, the daughter of Reuben Thornton POSEY and Letitia Shelby RUSSELL. They were married in St Mary's Parish, Louisiana in 1857. Elizabeth is my great-grandmother whom I met and talked to several times before her death in 1963 in Los

Angeles, CA. She was born in Marble Falls, TX, in 1862 after her parents fled New Orleans or Baton Rouge at the beginning of the Civil War. The family eventually moved to Socorro or Silver City, NM, where she married my great-grandfather, Isaac Sherwood TIFFANY. They had three children in Socorro, including my grandfather, Sherwood Isaac TIFFANY, before Isaac died in 1890 from consumption (TB). I found a marriage record for a Miss KAVANAUGH and Reuben Thornton POSEY in Burnett, TX, but no birth record for my great-grandomother. We have the death certificate for Letitia, who died in Florida, and the original certificate of membership for Thomas POSEY in the Society of the Cincinnati in our family. Incidentally, it is waterlogged from being doused in the Mississipi River when the family fled Louisiana in 1861 or so.

Your reference above to Eliza being married to Cornelius BAILEY is either wrong or the whole family referenced above is of another POSEY. I have found only a record of one other child of Reuben, William T born about 1856 in Texas. It would seem from the dates that he might have been the son of KAVANAUGH. Incidentally, Reuben was back and forth to Texas from Louisiana from about 1850 to 1870 to speculate in land, along with his relatives Robert H RUSSELL and Charles S. TODD. He lost the properties and they were sold for back taxes about 1870.
